Important security information – top tips to avoid fraud and stay safe online

  • Never disclose your log-in details or full passwords to anyone over the phone or by email or text - your bank or card provider will only ever ask you for 3 random digits to confirm your identity
  • When logging in to any website, make sure the web address starts https:// and you can see a padlock sign showing at the top or bottom of your browser window (depending on the browser you are using), and not on the page itself.
  • Never click on any links issuing you with a “security challenge” on a web page or from an email asking you to enter your log in details
  • Never open attachments from an unknown source
  • Always use a strong password – a combination of upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols

If at any time you are unsure about what you are being asked to do, please contact us by phone on 03000 123 456.

You can find out more information on the CAFOnline website.

Further information and advice to stay safe online is available from the Cyber Street website, a government campaign led by the Home Office.

The British Bankers Association’s Know Fraud No Fraud leaflet contains lots of useful tips about keeping you and your finances safe.

Anyone working for a charity or running a business should also be aware of invoice fraud.

And if you believe you have already been a victim of fraud of any kind, please report it to the Action Fraud helpline.
